Euphoric Flight

 EUPHORIC FLIGHT

At age 5, an experience of pure euphoria transformed my life.

Standing in a valley surrounded by majestic mountains, a brightly colored kite appears before me.  Instinctively, I grab the kite. As I glide above the grassy valley, the mountains loom ever closer.  I maneuver my body and the kite carries me vertically. As we (I say "we" because it feels as if the kite is an entity taking me on a journey)  skim the mountainside, I notice the ancient rock, the bubbling streams, the crashing waterfalls in deep detail.

My spirit soars as the world drops away.  Eventually, I realize that I can let go of the kite and continue flying on my own.  I spin, dive, zig and zag in the clouds.  Ultimately, I decide to go straight up through the Earth's atmosphere.  A beautiful vista of mountains and streams gazes back at me shrinking ever smaller.  I am breathless with the beauty of it.

Although my flight occurred while I was sleeping, the euphoria followed me into my waking state, lingering for days.  Even 45 years later, "flying dreams" are my very favorite of all experiences.  Over the years, I have studied lucid dreams, out of body experiences and guided imagery in an effort to consciously induce flying dreams at will.  My level of success is disappointing.  However, I have learned to guide my dreams once I realize I am flying.

On one flight, I choose Jupiter as my destination.  Even though I kept telling myself not to freak out as Jupiter rushes ever closer, when I feel the moist heat of its atmosphere on my face, I freaked and woke up.

To this day, a flying dream with leave me with a sense of euphoria that remains for days.  It is the highest of all highs that I have ever had the pleasure of encountering.

I hope I can choose to reincarnate as a hawk in my next lifetime.
